Tinga Taqueria
So today I had the opportunity to go to a Mexican restaurant in Upper Montclair NJ, and I have to say that it wasn't what I thought it would be," not the most autentic Mexican food I had" . I got there about 3:15pm and to my surprise it was packed: the already tight space gave my a sense of being stuck in an elevator filled with people. Their decor was a bit typical noting over the top just "interetsing" , I still gave it the benifit of the doubt and stayed , though I wasn't in the mood for Mexican I really wanted to try their food. I walked in and saw there were no host/ess to sit customers, so I just found a table and sat down , waited about 5 minutes and saw there was only one waiter handling all tables , there were about seven to eight tables he waiting on and that included mine .
The menu didn't seem like it was thought out , if there's any advice I give owners in the restaurant business is " if you are thinking about opening a restaurant please be mindful that there are many other eatery's like yours the hook here is to be DIFFERENT this means a great menu and great service " I didn't get that at Tingas I didn't . It took me about 10 minutes to really decide what I wanted and I ordered the Mexican Salad . The presentation was not what I expected my exceptions were high and when I saw the salad in a big over sized taco bowl I was turn off right away . The portion was very small I wont even call it an average size salad , for your information I'm so not into portion control when I eat, especially salads . The salad consisted of romaine lettuce , pico , chicken which was bland and a small size of honey mustard salad dressing . It took me forever to eat , it was so heavy , but I ate it . As I was eating it all I was thinking about was how much I wanted pizza that's how bad this salad was . Never the less I ate it , I did notice that my waiter not ounce came over and ask how I was doing , and I could understand he had about eight table all to himself .
I came to get if everything was good until I paid LOL . I couldn't believe it, I was asked if my food was good about 4 times, which was another strike. Over all my rating for this restaurant is 2 stars . Would I go back there again ? I would give it another trying hoping it has gotten better.
